Global China Institute's traditions and history

Global China Institute (GCI), formerly CCPN Global, established partnerships with the Lau China Institute, Kings College London and the China Media Centre, University of Westminster from 2015 working on the Global China dialogue.   

Historically CCPN Global associations with three institutions in the field of China or Chinese related studies. They are SOAS, LSE, and City University in reverse order.

  • The China Research Unit worked closely with SOAS
  • CCPN at LSE engaged with SOAS related experts

Chinese studies at SOAS which can be traced back to 1968 when the Contemporary China Institute was founded and brought in The China Quarterly, founded by Roderick MacFarquhar in 1960.

CCPN at LSE (2004-13)

  • In March 2013 launched an independent organization CCPN Global, a Global academic society for promoting a new and innovative view of ‘China and the Chinese from a comparative perspective’
  • From 2010 onwards CCPN moved away from ‘China studies’ to concentrate on development of 'China in comparative perspective'.
  • From 2008 to 2010 CCPN's mission was for promoting the LSE MSc China in Comparative Perspective Programme and raise profile globally for LSE China related work.
  • From 2004 to 2008 CCPN’s work mixed with elements of both China studies and China in Comparative Perspective.

LSE traditions (1920s -)
